Ramadhan 1432 ELEMENTARY

MY FIRST FAST

By Abdurrahman Jamal 6 years

My first fast in Ramadhan was on the 7th of Ramadhan. I did not keep a fast for the whole day. But I did not eat much – just breakfast. I ate for breakfast a bowl of porridge. And then I fasted all the way to Iftaar. In school during story time I saw Shahida going for a drink of water. Then I wanted to have some water. What I did not realize was that I was fasting. Then my teacher stopped me and said I was fasting. Then the story went on. It was about Prophet Mohammed (SAW). And when we finished the story I realized that my mother had not packed snack or lunch. Then I also realized she hadn’t even given me a lunch basket.  I felt a bit hungry but I was patient. I went home in the van. And once I went home, I fell asleep. Later at Iftaar everyone said Takbir for me. What they didn’t know was that I was hungry but patient. For Iftaar, we ate some dates. Then I ate a honey bread and drank a lot of Roohafza. By the end of Iftaar I drank two glasses of water. Then we had some kanji. Later my mom put some keema inside my kanji while my father mixed the keema inside the kanji.  And we also had some Tirumalai Strawberry ice-cream for desert. And later on we had dinner. What was for dinner was lasagna and what was for desert was chocolate cake. I felt really full after we finished. When I was semi fasting I felt really hungry but patient. Later at bedtime I slept off and today is the 8th of Ramadhan.

ONE DAY IN RAMADHAN

By Mujahid ul Islam, 12 years.

It was dark when I woke for Suhur. It was 4:00 o clock. My mother told me to go brush my teeth. I brushed and went to eat Suhur. I ate rice and chicken. I drank milk. I went to the mosque and prayed dawn prayer and came back to the house. I was feeling so sleepy that I slept. I woke at 8:00 o clock and got ready to go to school. At school I read Quran and did the class work.  At 1:30 I got a little thirsty when I was going to my house. It was hot and sunny.

I slept and woke up and prayed Asr. I went to the mosque and made dua for everyone. It was 6:47. There was only 3 minutes more. At that time I was so hungry. After 3 minutes I drank water and my stomach was full. After Iftaar I prayed Maghrib and went ot my house and read 1 juz of the Quran. I prayed Isha, Tarawih and Witr and slept at 11 o clock.

My Ramadhan

By Alyina Ibsan, 13 years

Ramadhan is a holy month for Muslims. We fast every day in this month.  In Ramadhan I get up half and hour before dawn and eat food for my suhur. My sister is a soccer star, she kicks me out of the bed. After that I brush my teeth cursing myself for sleeping late. At suhur, I eat with my joint family. We eat ghee rice, chicken and dosa. After suhoor we pray our dawn prayer. Then I sleep till 8:00. I have my bath and go to school.

Today at school our teacher tells us about Ramadhan. My hunger is forgotten in the school hours. After coming home I sleep for a little while. I read the Quran after I get up from sleep and then I make dua (supplication) for my family and friends. Before sunset, my mother calls me for helping her at the dining table. After sunset, the whole family sits around the table. And we break our fast by drinking Zam Zam (Holy water) or eating dates. Then we eat different kinds of food like samosa, burger, pizza, potato balls, French fries, fruit salad, different types of chicken etc. Then we drink Nannari. After we break our fast we pray our sunset prayers.

At night we go to the mosque and pray our night prayers as well as our Tarawih prayers. (A special prayer prayed in Ramadhan). After that I go to my room and sleep till my sister makes her next soccer goal!

MY FIRST FAST

 by Huda Sultana, 7 years

In Ramadhan we fast. Last year I fasted for the first time. I was 6 years old. My mother woke me up. I ate roti with korma. I slept. And then I woke up for dawn prayer and I prayed my prayer. I felt like drinking water but I didn’t drink. I got an idea to make “Dhikr” because Allah would be so happy. And then I revised some chapters of the Quran.  The school gave a holiday for Ramadhan.  I was feeling sleepy. I slept till the afternoon prayer. I prayed my Dhuhr prayer. I felt like drinking or eating something. But I didn’t eat or drink. I made dua for the poor because the poor don’t get food. They don’t have any place to keep it. They don’t have any money.

It was time for Iftaar. My father bought a big cake because I kept a first full fast. My father bought a Milky bar for me only and for the others a 5 star bar. My mother cut fruits – apple, banana, guava. My mother made French fries and pizza – vegetable pizza.  We ate all the things. And we ate the cake too. I drank rose milk  with khubza. I felt so happy because my father brought so many things and my mother cooked many things because I KEPT MY FIRST FULL FAST!

Its Ramadhan tomorrow. We all will fast tomorrow. I can’t wait to fast for Allah. In Ramadhan we fast, pray, do dhikr, and read Quran.

Hurray, Alhamdulillah today is Ramadhan and I am fasting. I am so happy. I ate suhoor in the early morning at 3oclock. I ate rice and yogurt for suhoor. When the fajr adhan was called, we stopped eating and drinking. If we are late then we should just have 3-6 dates and a cup of water. We should not think we are fasting so we should eat a lot. When I came back from school, I slept for sometime because I felt tired. Then I got up and read Quran for sometime. Then the Asr adhan was called and we prayed.  Then I read storybooks for sometime. It is time for Iftaar. We have some dates, water and kanji. I eat vada, bhajji, porridge and drink rose milk, water, dates and idly.  When it is Iftaar time something or the other spills. Like one time a jug of rose milk spilt fully and not a drop was left for us to drink.  After having those I prayed Maghrib.  Then the Isha Adhan is called. We pray Isha and then pray Tarawih. Tarawih is a long night prayer. It is very special.

MY FIRST FAST

 By Shaheedha, 7 years.

The people fast in Ramadhan. Fasting means we should not eat and drink water. Not only water, we should not eat anything. We read Quran, do Dhikr, pray salah (prayers) and fast. We should not fight and say bad words to others.  This is my first fast.  I was so thirsty and hungry. It was afternoon time. I prayed. And went to sleep. When my mother woke me up I was so tired that I could not open my eyes. I asked my mother if it was time to go home. My mother smiled and said “Come and eat food. It is time for Iftaar”. I had some dates and water. After eating those I went and prayed Maghrib. And then I ate cake, cookies, and grapes and drank orange juice. It was time for Isha. I prayed Isha and Tarawih. Tarawih is a special long prayer prayed in the night. After Tarawih I went to sleep very tired. I love Ramadhan.

YUSUF'S RAMADHAN

By Mujahid-ul-Islam, 12 years

Once upon a time there was a poor family. There were Muslims. There were four members in their family. The father's name was Abdullah. Mother was Aminah. Sister was Umm Kulthum and the brother was Yusuf. Yusuf was a pious and religious boy. The neigbourhood children didn't like Yusuf and his family. They called him bad names and beat him sometimes, because he was Muslim.

Yusuf heard that the next day was Ramadhan. So his family and he woke at 3:30am. They cooked and ate suhur. Yusuf went to school. At school, his classmates asked Yusuf whether he was fasting. Yusuf said he was fasting. The classmates started to joke and threw stones and dirty water on Yusuf. But Yusuf told them "I amd fasting, so don't hurt me."

One day a boy threw a stone on Yusuf and Yusuf started bleeding. So he was admitted in the hospital but still he didn't leave his fast. He was patient because Allah would reward him. He thought that Ramadhan was bad for him that year.

After some days, the neighbourhood children started wondering why Yusuf was so patient. They asked him and hed explained about Islam and Ramadhan to them. The children understood and reverted to Islam. They also convinced their parents to become Muslim. Yusuf thought that this was his best Ramadhan.

Then my father told it was time for iftaar. I closed my Quran and helped my father set the things for Iftaar. My mother made rosemilk, cut the fruit and made vada. MY RAMADHAN

By Nusaibah M. Anas, 8 years

In Ramadhan we fast, we make dua, we make dhikr and read Quran and do so many other things. In the early morning we wake up and eat suhoor. When the fajr adhan is called, from then on we must not eat anything till sunset. But we must pray all the prayers and read Quran and do anything that would please Allah. Then before Maghrib adhan is called, we must get ready for iftaar. That’s wen we break our fast.  When the maghrib adaan is being called, we break our fast by eating dates and drinking water. Then we drink kanji and go for prayers. When we finish our prayers, we can have something to eat. Then the Isha adhaan is called we must go for prayer and Tarawih. Tarawih means a prayer that is prayed in the night as a long prayer. That is how we spend a day in Ramadhan.
