Learning about Measurement

Again the Small Science curriculum rocks! The chapter on measurement was such fun.

First the children had to go find "numbers" and state what that number meant. The children got familiarized with the concept of using numbers to measure or assign unique tags.

Then the children had to make a balance using a pencil, scale and match boxes. The difficult part was calibration - adjusting the scale to ensure both sides balanced. The children then measured the weight of an eraser, a chana, a pen cap in terms of matchsticks.

Another lesson was on measuring and estimating volumes. They had to guess how many mugs would fill a bucket and then test their hypothesis. They were thrilled to see their hypothesis was wrong!!! Then they took different sized jars and stacked them by volume and measured water levels.

Finally we learned how to track time - "Tick Tick One, Tick Tick Two.." while they ran races. We also learned to keep beat while singing "Alif is for Allah".

Lovely hands-on experiences, some they will never foget InshaAllah.
