Al Qamar Academy was privileged to have Ms. Fathima Muzaffer, All India General Secretary & Tamil Nadu State President of Indian Union Muslim League, visit today. Mrs. Muzaffer was given a tour of the Montessori and Elementary environments and saw first hand how children learn at Al Qamar Academy.

Mrs. Muzaffer very kindly consented to talk to the Elementary children about democracy, the Indian constitution, the freedom struggle and the importance of public participation. She explained to the children how the British rule was unjust and how the Indians fought for their independence using Ahimsa.  Mrs. Muzaffer outlined the key prinicples of the Constitution as enshrined in the Preamble. The children could easily relate to these abstract prinicples because Mrs. Muzaffer got them thinking about liberty, fraternity and sovereignity in the context of being Al Qamar students - they have freedom, but with responsibility, they have a voice, but they need to respect rules.

Mrs Muzaffer emphasized the concept of “Unity in Diversity” present in India. She strongly encouraged the children to engage in social reform through involvement in politics or administration but without compromising their identity. “Get involved and make a change. If you don’t then someone else will. Today there are less than 2% Muslims in the administrative services in India. If the Muslim community needs to change its situation, it needs to get involved. “The Prophet (SAW) was a leader. The Sahabis (AS) were administrators.”  She exhorted the children to write to the local authorities if they are upset with the overflowing garbage. “Go meet the Collector and make a representation. Undertake a signature campaign.”

SubhanAllah! What a wonderful way to learn Civics!! Never again will the children think of this subject as a boring.

“Alhamdulillah, it has been a learning experience from this excellent institute. Our duas for the success and growth in all spheres. May Allah accept Al Qamar and pave the way InshaAllah” wrote Mrs. Muzaffer in the Visitors Book.
