Al Qamar Elementary and Sr. Montessori children visited the Aavin Dairy on Wednesday to understand how the milk they drink is processed and sent to them. They saw the refridgerated tankers which bring the milk from the villages, how it is transferred into huge containers "bigger than a 5 storey building". The children ...were show how the milk is first pasterurized through "flash heating and flash cooling" and then homogenized. The children learned that there are 5 different kinds of milk depending on the fat content. They saw how the milk is finally packaged into different coloured bags. Having understood all, they came back and explained the whole thing to me! Fuaad said "this dairy processes 12 lakh litres of milk a day" while another child explained how the milk processing is "finished at night and delivered early morning to the shops near our home". All in all a very educative trip!
